Sergio grew up in Sevilla in Andalusia, Spain, and earned his BA in Spanish Literature and Linguistics, as well as a Spanish MFL Teacher Certificate, at the University of Sevilla. He then moved to Barcelona where he pursued an MA in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona. In 2018 he obtained the English QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
He started teaching in various institutions and universities starting in Sevilla, but then working as a Spanish teacher Azerbaijan at Baku University and in Hong Kong at HKU SPACE University in addition to other language institutes. He is also an Examiner for the Instituto Cervantes for both children and adults.
Sergio’s international school teaching career took off in 2017 in Taiwan where he taught at two IB World Schools for four years before moving to the Bahamas to teach at an IB World School there before returning to Spain. In addition to the IBMYP and IBDP, Sergio has taught the British Cambridge IGCSE and A Level curriculum. As an IB Teacher, he has done various IB Spanish professional development workshops. In addition to his school-based work, he has supervised SSST students, and has also taught online with Pamoja Education.
Sergio is also an avid football fan and is a licensed coach, as well as a coach for chess and wilderness first aid in support of outdoor education. Throughout his career he has engaged in volunteer activities working with immigrants and refugees, teaching orphans and supporting environmental and animal charities.
As a balanced and rounded educator, Sergio is a great IB model for our Spanish students.
