Mitsuo was born and educated in Japan. He studied at Meiji Gakuin High School and University where he earned a BA degree in Sociology.  He then took a teacher training course at the PanaLingua Institute.  He started his teaching career at a language institute in Tokyo, but also worked  at the Tokyo Video Centre; Radio Broadcast Department where he was responsible for sound mixing for outside broadcasting and was Assistant to the Director in the production and transmission of foreign news programmes. He moved to the UK in the late 1980s where he taught in an adult education centre, City University and SOAS (University of London School of Oriental and African Studies) and worked at the Institute of International Education.    He then spent a few years in Cambridge where he taught at two sixth form colleges, and also at the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge.  He then returned to London where he has taught at an international business college, and also at an IB World School  l – a girls’ boarding school. As an IB teacher, he has taught Language A and also Language B, and also IB Middle Years Programme.   In addition to his work as an IB educator, he has worked with various examination boards and also with HM Armed Forces and the Institute of Linguists.    He has has extensive experience supervising IB Extended Essays including topics such as  Yukio Mishima The Temple of the Golden Pavilion- ‘Why did Mizoguchi set fire on the temple and then change his mind to live, regarding the relationship between structure.’; the analysis of the structure and the episodes of Kuma no Shikiishi — What is “frail but definite connection”?;  a hidden message from Haruki Murakami through his novel, – What is the aim of the Sheep and what it symbolizes? Through historical backgrounds along with Murakami’s awards speech, what message can be perceived?; and Deep River by Shusaku Endo –  The thought entrusted to the posthumous manuscripts -What is meant by the unseen force and ‘douhansha’ (companion) in Deep River which reads ‘reincarnation’ as the axis, and what is the ingenious contrivance?-

 

Mitsuo’s has also lived in Spain and Argentina which has broadened his international expatriate experience.   We are pleased he is able to work with our Japanese students.
